Shailee Jani, Ph.D.

Project Manager and Scientist

I completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology from Mumbai University. I subsequently moved to Toronto, Canada, and joined York University for a Master’s degree in Biology focused on molecular mechanisms of antibacterial resistance. I wished to transition to working with larger organisms and was fascinated by various aspects of how diet affected the metabolic syndrome. Therefore, for my doctoral research in the Kinesiology and Health Science Department, I focused on how nutritional manipulation influenced physiological and molecular mechanisms that regulate glucose and fatty acid metabolism in adipose tissues, skeletal muscle, and liver in both male and female rats. Having worked with a range of models, my training and research experiences have provided me with a strong background in nutrition, metabolism, insulin signaling, MASLD, and obesity. With my broad scope of technical knowledge and expertise in nutritional sciences, I am able to provide strong scientific support to address any concerns about study design and diet formulations. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, kayaking, painting, and spending time with loved ones.
